
Anette von Eichel
Born in 1971, Anette von Eichel studied Bachelor and Master of Jazz Singing at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (Netherlands) under Rachel Gould and Jeanne Lee. At the same time, she completed a Master’s degree in European Expansion History at the Rijksuniversiteit Leiden (Netherlands). She graduated with honors in both fields.
Anette von Eichel’s artistic collaborations over the past years with international jazz musicians and composers, including Sebastian Sternal, Henning Sieverts, Jonas Burgwinkel, John Hollenbeck, Jesse van Ruller, Jasper Blom, Florian Ross, Marko Lackner, Matthias Schriefl, Robert Landfermann, and film composer Annette Focks, showcase her as a consistently surprising, highly versatile singer, composer, and lyricist. Her work spans from contemporary jazz with deep roots in the tradition of jazz to free improvisation and new music. Her latest album, Inner Tide (2021), presents Anette in all these roles and has received excellent international feedback. Following the release of her new album Belonging(2023), which also received strong national and international acclaim, Anette has been nominated for the 2024 Deutscher Jazzpreis in the “Vocal” category.
Anette von Eichel is particularly passionate about the social relevance of the artistic work of musicians and cultural workers in general. This is why, since 2016, she has been a member of the board of the Deutsche Jazzunion, the advocacy organization for jazz musicians in Germany.
Since 2010, the experienced educator Anette von Eichel has held a professorship in jazz singing at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln (Germany). Prior to that, she was a lecturer at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague (Netherlands) from 2001 to 2009, as well as briefly at the Hochschule für Musik in Osnabrück. Since 2021, Anette has also been the Dean of the Jazz and Pop Department at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.
